With the doomsday clock now at 100 seconds to midnight, global fears over threats to our existence are growing. Our perspective, real or perceived, is based upon our core beliefs and shapes our understanding of world events and ultimately our ability to function in our relationships with others and in our own minds.
There are many frightening things at play on our planet these days. News that the environment is threatened by an impending “climate catastrophe,” that world economies are teetering on the brink of collapse, the threat of nuclear war has increased dramatically in a very short time and civil unrest is reaching boiling levels across the globe, fueled by racism, politics and fear that floods the news conduits. How we perceive what is happening greatly effects our outlook therefore it is imperative that we view current events through a biblical lens, in order to keep things in the correct perspective.
It should come as no surprise that the nation of Israel is at the very heart of geopolitical tensions and virtually every major world power is a stakeholder in the middle east. The fact that there is even a nation called Israel today is a miracle in itself because without divine intervention it would not exist. Isaiah prophesied about the amazing rebirth of Israel, “Before she goes into labor, she gives birth; before the pains come upon her, she delivers a son. Who has ever heard of such things? Who has ever seen things like this? Can a country be born in a day or a nation brought forth in a moment? Yet no sooner is Zion in labor than she gives birth to her children.” Isaiah 66:7-8. This prophecy was fulfilled on May 14, 1948.
Jesus foretold what signs would reveal the last days preceding his return at the end of the age. When he said there will be wars and rumors of wars in the last days, he was speaking of this past century which has witnessed more wars and more bloodshed than the previous nineteen put together. With the discarding of nuclear arms reduction treaties in the last year, there is new potential to blow the world to smithereens and the doomsday clock sits at 100 seconds to midnight, the closest it has ever been. Biblical prophecy has a fulfillment ratio of 100 and the bible warns that we are the witnesses that will see the climax of all civilization. The Messiah is almost ready to return.
Rather than a knee-jerk reaction of paranoia, bedlam or panic, understanding that God is in control and everything is coming together according to his plan is a great reassurance while non-believers may feel all hope is lost. It really is an exciting time to be alive, witnessing prophecy being fulfilled and watching God’s plan unfold before our very eyes! The world isn’t falling apart, it is falling into place.
I invite you to explore this subject and others in my new book “Truth Cries Out” which was released in 2020. It is available through Amazon, Barnes and Noble and through the publisher’s website book store https://www.westbowpress.com/bookstore. Now more than ever, the Bible is relevant and insightful as our world becomes seemingly less predictable.
