The Bible warns that the last days will be much like the days of Noah. “For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the day the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man” (Matthew 24:38-39).
Additionally, due to the prevalent wickedness of humanity, God pronounced judgement on the civilization of that time (Genesis 6:5-7). It was a very dark time in history. Similarly, society today can be characterized by its godless inclinations and propensity to rebel against the moral standards handed down to humans from God. This rebellion was predicted by the apostle Paul (2 Thessalonians 2:3). We are living in dark days.
Today’s culture of inclusivity readily declares that yesterday’s moral depravity ought to be recognized as acceptable and even honored. The prophet Isaiah warned, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” (Isaiah 5:20).
Our society takes great pride in celebrating abnormal behavior and attempts to normalize perversion in the name of human rights. However, as it embraces deviant and sinful behavior, it also welcomes the demonic entities that provoke this behavior. And these spirits are anti Christ.
The Bible says that the spirit of antichrist was already at work in the world in the first century (1 John 4:3; 2 Thessalonians 2:7), and it has been ramping up for two millennia. As this spiritual rebellion builds, it will eventually culminate in the manifestation of the man of lawlessness, predicted by the prophet Daniel in Daniel chapter nine and the apostle Paul (2 Thessalonians 2:3).
Demonic Spirits
Jesus regularly cast demons out of people and recognized spiritual realms as authentic reality. The casting out of demons not only applies to individuals but to nations and cultures. Christian nations have enjoyed a far greater freedom from demonic influence than pagan cultures but as the current generation pushes Christ out of society in the name of inclusion and tolerance, the dynamics on the playing field are changing.
Jesus spoke of casting out a demon in Matthew 12:44-45, and what He described is precisely what is happening in western culture today. Our secular society doesn’t even acknowledge the existence of spiritual realms and is therefore vulnerable to having no defense in place to prevent dark spiritual forces from running rampant and uninhibited.
Paul wrote that our struggles are not against physical adversaries, but with invisible ones. He states in Ephesians 6:12, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in heavenly realms.”
There is a massive indifference and lack of insight in today’s society into the interconnectedness of world events and the dark spiritual powers that influence humanity. A tremendous naivete regarding the potency of demonic entities. Even many Christians are guilty of dismissing the notion that evil spiritual powers exist. They aren’t mentioned in sermons, nor are they discussed in most Christian circles.
Society blindly accepts the possibility that aliens exist yet misses the evidence that these are actually satanic demons. What victims perceive as alien encounters and abductions have been halted when these entities have been commanded to stop in the name of Jesus.
The Empty House
The Bible predicts a great falling away from God in the last days and this is evident by the current culture that has chosen to drive Jesus away from schools, universities, governments and society in general. This rebellion against God is the vehicle that Satan is using to displace Christianity with Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, native American spiritualism and others. The house is being swept clean and the doors have been left wide open for the gods of this world to move in and take up residency.
Matthew 12:43-45 records Jesus teaching, “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this generation.”
The language implies the extension of a person’s spiritual condition to the collective condition of populations, nations, and cultures, that will be worse off than before the first demon was cast out. The Christian church displaced a great deal of spiritual darkness throughout its history, however the tide is tuning as the church today is eroded by cultural influences.
The current culture tolerates the indoctrination of children by the LGBTQ2AS+ darkness by having drag queens read to kindergarten classes and allowing schools to encourage teenagers to explore transgenderism without the knowledge of their parents. Many Christians defend abortion in the name of women’s health as millions of babies have been sacrificed in the name of women’s rights. And society cannot see the correlation between sacrificing a baby in the womb to benefit its mother and sacrificing babies in the worship of Moloch by the Canaanites in the hope of obtaining personal benefit.
Freedom of speech has facilitated disinformation and outright lying. What democracies champion as a constitutional right, has been effectively commandeered by the father of lies to deceive and spread the false narrative that humans are free. What began as soft pornography in the sixties, has gradually grown into the hard core promotion of the reprehensible sexualization of innocent youths through child porn and human trafficking in order to satiate the whims of a reprobate society that is preoccupied with pleasure. In reality, free speech isn’t free at all. The resulting addictions have rendered humanity enslaved to sin and only Jesus can truly set people free.
The Christian church is called to be a light in the darkness, and a city on a hill, but the darkness is infiltrating the watered down church of western civilization. It is a church that is lukewarm in its commitment to God’s moral standards and has grown complacent through its affluence. It has embraced materialism, naturalism and worldly values, precisely what scripture warns against.
Revelation 3:14-22 contains a warning to the church at Laodicea, that can be applied to much of today’s church in the west. The crucial element is that it is not too late for the church to be earnest and repent. To put salve on the collective eyes of this generation of believers so they can see.
The spiritual darkness evident in today’s culture serves as a wake up call to all Christians that we are living in the last days. Dark days. This is a call for repentance and a return to Jesus with red hot passion. Whoever has ears let them hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches!
