Humans are capable of great things. History provides us with philosophy, inquisition and invention that has propelled us to explain complex interactions between atomic particles, technological breakthroughs that have changed almost everything about the way we live and the identification of galaxies in the distant reaches of the universe. We’ve conquered many diseases, walked on the moon and yet we still wrestle with our origins and the definition of our purpose. In our quest to explain life and our environment we have drifted from theory to theory and promoted the concepts considered to be the most logical in a strictly natural context, not willing to consider the supernatural. In doing so, this process has become biased against thinking that is not perceived as mainstream and has become counter-productive. We have reached a point of diminishing return in science, socioeconomics and culture. To put it simply, we are in a rut of our own making. We have rejected the idea of God as our creator, even though there is ample proof to demonstrate that not only were we created by God, he desires to have a personal relationship with us.
The theory of evolution has been taught in our schools as if it were fact and as a result, we have entire generations that have trouble wrapping their minds around a 6-day creation or a 6,000 year-old earth and most reject creation outright. Seeds of doubt have been allowed to sprout and flourish by a population that either accepts what is presented to it without question or is in total denial that God exists.
How life evolved from nothing, is a huge question that the theory of evolution cannot answer. The fact that life only comes from life is known as the law of biogenesis and is credited to Louis Pasteur. If evolution were true, we would expect to see thousands of examples of species in transition in the animal and plant kingdoms. However, not one has ever been identified. Additionally, many gaps are evident in the fossil record, between invertebrates and vertebrates, fish and amphibians, amphibians and reptiles, reptiles and birds, reptiles and mammals and between apes and other primates. Where are the ape-men that are supposedly our ancestors? Not only are there none found alive today, fossils have never been discovered either (supposed discoveries have been proven hoaxes). The fossil record has been thoroughly studied and these gaps will never be filled. Evolution cannot explain how the complex information and code system of DNA could arise through random processes.
The biotechnical advancements in molecular biology have facilitated the study of genetics to examine heritable traits on a much deeper level than was even dreamed of in Darwin’s time. Since the 1990’s there has been a great deal of research that has shown to be problematic for evolutionary theory. The theory of evolution therefore should be considered as nothing more than philosophy and not scientific fact since the theory breaks down when critically examined. This exposes an evolution industry that has mined research dollars in order to propagate its own existence.
The probability of animals evolving into pairs of males and females, each with fully functioning reproductive organs, simultaneously in the same vicinity to permit them meeting and mating are so astronomically staggering, it would require more faith to believe it could happen than it does to believe Christ rose from the dead. Furthermore, the complexity of life is really beyond comprehension. To suggest that it all was an accident is to deny the very intelligence inherent in all living organisms. Intelligence that was intentionally designed and placed there by the Creator of everything.
Every component of the universe is in perfect balance so humanity can live and be redeemed. The air we breathe is the perfect balance of components, the composition of water is perfect to support all life, plants and animals all testify to the delicate balance of nature. Consider the complexity of DNA, or the intricate workings of the inner ear, in the words of the Psalmist, I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:14. Before creation, God’s plan included Jesus Christ coming to earth as our redeemer and our ultimate participation as believers in eternity with him. Compared to gods of other religions, the God of the Bible is unique in that he created the universe independent of space and time, which space-time theorems actually prove.
The odds of the universe existing as it does due purely to chance are beyond astronomical. “The cosmos is built on a complex set of physical laws and constants, and on relationships between fundamental forces and particles, all of which possess infinitesimally specific values. Even the slightest deviation in any of these values, and the universe as we know it could not exist, much less support life.” Writes Subby Szterszky in his article entitled A fine-tuned cosmos and the hand of the Creator. “The level of specificity – of fine tuning- for these various laws and constants ranges from 1 in 10 to the 37th power (that’s 10 followed by 37 zeroes) to 1 in 10 the 120th power (or 10 followed by 120 zeroes).”
To put the value of 1 in 10 to the 37th power into perspective, astrophysicist Hugh Ross illustrates it as comparable to covering North America with dimes, in columns reaching up to the moon, repeating this with one billion North Americas, marking one dime and allowing a blindfolded man one chance to pick the right dime. Robin Collins, a physicist-philosopher, uses the analogy of extending a measuring tape across the universe and marking it to represent the force of gravity. A one-inch shift in that mark within that span and the universe could never have formed due to chance.
Even the word “cosmos” connotates intelligent design. It originates from Ancient Greek and means order and arrangement with harmony and beauty. As early as the sixth century B.C., Pythagoras and a host of other Greek philosophers, mathematicians and astronomers used it to identify the universe.
The time has come to break the paradigm that science and Christianity do not mesh, and as scientific methodologies and technologies improve, there is no longer a need to deny that God is embedded in science. While it began as a speculative and radical theory, and gained traction through presentation without ever being proven, it is evolution’s acceptance that is the real mystery. It defies logic and takes more faith to believe in evolution than it does to believe in creation, but the theory of evolution absolves the believer of any responsibility which makes it popular in secular reasoning.
