Contemplating Creation

Evolutionary theory has been taught as fact in our schools and universities for so long that several generations of citizens now struggle to believe the biblical narrative and many suggest that Genesis is allegoric in nature.  This fallacious reasoning fails to critically question the science as it has been presented and has resulted in a paradigm that forbids the consideration of creation as a viable explanation of life and its origin.

Assumptions that the universe was infinite and static have been disproved by scientists such as Albert Einstein and even Stephen Hawking conceded, “So long as the universe has a beginning, we could suppose it has a creator.”  The big bang theory was the response to the postulation that the universe had to have a beginning, however, big bang rationale literally doesn’t hold water. 

Seventy percent of the earth’s surface is covered by water and the amount of water on earth is far greater than that of any other planet in the solar system.  If all the planets were the result of the same big bang and formed simultaneously their compositions would not vary so vastly. There are no other sources of water similar to the earth’s water (in composition) in the solar system.  Water is essential for life and only the earth has an abundance of it.

The universe is expanding faster than was previously thought, forcing big bang theorists to use an artificial deceleration of the “metric expansion” to promote the idea that the big bang took place billions of years ago in order to explain today’s expansion rate.  Scientists have painted themselves into a corner in order to synchronize the big bang and evolutionary theory into a narrative that can be shoehorned into textbooks, save face among peers and maintain research funding.

The assumption by Darwin that single celled organisms are simple and that all life forms must have evolved from them and gained in complexity over time has proven to be erroneous, since single celled organisms have been discovered to be anything but simple when viewed under today’s microscopes.  The complexity of a DNA molecule is something that Darwin could not even begin to imagine and demonstrates intelligent design and evolution cannot explain how the complex information and code system of DNA could arise through random processes.

Evolution fails to provide the answer to the problematic probability of animals evolving into pairs of males and females, each with fully functional reproductive organs, and simultaneously appearing in the same vicinity to permit them meeting and mating in order to propagate.  When faced with difficult questions, Darwinists suggest more time is required to see results, however the more time one extrapolates backwards, the greater the probability for error in the extrapolation.

The fossil record is interpreted by evolutionists as a chronological record that took millions of years to form.  What we see, however, when fossils are examined is evidence of a nearly instantaneous, catastrophic global event that preserved millions upon millions of creatures without decay.  Fish in the process of eating other fish and mammoths with undigested ferns in their stomachs and mouths buried under sediments that precipitated out of a solution with water are indicative of a world wide flood as recorded in the Bible.

Different types of creatures are found at different levels, not because of timing but because of the density of their carcasses relative to the mud they are buried in.  Smaller animals with higher densities per square unit of surface area are found deeper than larger animals with greater surface area and less density per unit of that surface area.

When the flood of Noah deluged the earth around 2300 BC, not only did it rain, but water exploded out of the earth when the “springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened.” (Genesis 7:11).  The globe was rocked by a violent earthquake along the ocean floor and water and mud erupted skyward before retuning to earth due to gravity thereby destroying all life with the exception of some marine life and the creatures with Noah on the ark.  This process took days, not millions of years as evolution teaches.

On the floor of the Atlantic Ocean lies the Mid-Atlantic Ridge which is the evidence of the sheer violence and energy released when the springs of the great deep burst forth and flooded the planet.  When the waters receded, great gorges were carved through the continents, such as the Grand Canyon, from the immeasurable volumes of water flowing seaward as the mountain ranges were pushed up by the continents moving apart forming mesas and buttes where the rock was more dense.

When it comes to the age of the earth, radiometric dating is problematic for proponents of a 4.5 billion year old planet.  Carbon 14 is used to date fossils, coal deposits, bone fragments and plant specimens, however, C14 has a half life of only 5730 years making it completely unreliable to be used to date things as millions of years old.  Furthermore, since most fossils and fossil fuels contain similar amounts of C14, they must be of similar age and are considerably recent in origin. This destroys the chronological interpretation of the geological column.

One argument used to support an old earth is the supposed time it takes light to travel from distant stars to the earth.  One light year is the distance light travels in one year, which is a deceiving term since the universe is so expansive.  Imagining distances of several billion light years lends to the assumption of an old universe, however, we now know that light can be sped up, slowed down, stopped and started.  Additionally, light is effected by gravity and friction from space dust as it travels.

If light truly took billions of years to reach earth from far away galaxies, and the universe was billions of years old, what we would see when we observe spiral galaxies should not be possible.  Rather than beautiful, crisp, clear images of countless stars arranged in a spiral, we should see rather, a distorted smear of light forming a circle.  We are able to calculate the speed at which these spirals are spinning and what we find is they align much closer to a young earth than a very old one.

The Bible records the creation of the earth in the first chapter of the book of Genesis and tells us that God created the earth and everything in it in six days.  Each day is marked by evening followed by morning, indicating six literal days (not epochs as some assert).  Moses reaffirms this in Exodus 20:11, “For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but on the seventh day he rested.  Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.”  If each day were to be a million years, it would be illogical that God would rest a million years on the seventh day and there would be no correlation to the Sabbath.

Genesis 5 records the generations from Adam to Noah, including lifespans and in the following chapters we can calculate about 2,000 years elapsed until Abraham.   Mathew chapter 1 records the genealogy of Jesus beginning with Abraham, or another 2,000 years which places the age of the earth according to the Bible at approximately 6,000 years old.

The Bible tells us that God raised Jesus from the dead, parted the Red Sea, caused the walls of Jericho to fall down and that he spoke the universe, the earth and everything in it into existence.  God is omnipotent. He is the God of miracles.  He has no limits.

Furthermore, God doesn’t lie (Numbers 23:19; Titus 1:2; Hebrews 6:18).  He created the universe in six literal days (Genesis 1; Exodus 20:11) and caused the flood of Noah (Genesis 7; 2 Peter 3:5-6) and Jesus himself testified to the accuracy of these accounts.  “But do not think I will accuse you before the Father.  Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set.  If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.  But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?” John 5:45-47.

Millions of years of evolution is irreconcilable with scripture and therefore contrary to the gospel.  1 Corinthians 3:19-20, “For the wisdom of the world is foolishness in God’s sight.  As it is written: ‘He catches the wise in their craftiness;’ and again, ‘The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise are futile.’”

The odds of the universe existing as it does due purely to chance are astronomical.  “The cosmos is built on a complex set of physical laws and constants, and on relationships between fundamental forces and particles, all of which possess infinitesimally specific values.  Even the slightest deviation in any of these values, and the universe as we know it could not exist, much less support life.” (Stubby Sztersky, A Fine-Tuned Cosmos and the Hand of the Creator).  “The level of specificity – of the fine tuning – for these various laws and constants ranges from 1 in 10 to the 37^th power (that’s 10 followed by 37 zeroes) to 1 in 10 to the 120^th power (or 10 followed by 120 zeroes).

The logical explanation of why the universe appears intelligently designed is because it is intelligently designed.  Every component of the universe is in perfect balance to support life on earth.  The air we breathe is the perfect balance of components, the composition of water is perfect to support life, plants and animals all testify to the delicate balance of nature.  It takes more faith to believe this perfect balance is due to random chance through evolutionary processes than it does to believe that God is responsible for creation as the Bible reveals.

While academia remains focused on hypothetical models, the empirical evidence supports the biblical narrative.  Evolutionary theory suggests that life began as simple and disorganized, progressing to greater complexity and organization over time.  The Bible says that God created everything with initial complexity which has deteriorated over time due to the effects of sin on the world (Romans 8:22).  The observable and quantifiable trend over time is entropy not evolution.

In Paul’s words, “Where is the wise person?  Where is the teacher of the law?  Where is the philosopher of this age?  Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? “  1 Corinthians 1:20.
