Limitless

God is limitless. God cannot be measured or weighed. He is infinite. He holds all of creation together with such omnipotence, yet He Himself cannot be grasped. Isaiah 40:12 states, “Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, or with the breadth of His hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?”

Nothing can contain God and nothing can overpower Him. He is above all and through all and in all things (Ephesians 4:6). He transcends the physical and the spiritual. God is outside of all human sense perception. No one can define Him or comprehend the infinite nature of God. This explains why no one comes to God unless He draws them to Himself (John 6:44).

God Is Omnipresent

God is omnipresent. He is everywhere present at once. In Jeremiah 23:24 we are told, “‘Can anyone hide in secret places so that I cannot see him?’ declares the Lord? ‘Do not I fill heaven and earth?’ declares the Lord.” And David wrote “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence? If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.” (Psalm 139:7-8). God is not absent anywhere.

That means that the wholeness of God is in every place at every time and in any place at any time. This concept is mind blowing. We cannot fathom how the whole of God can be here and yet the whole of God can be somewhere else. That the fullness of God can be in one place and the fullness of God can simultaneously be in another place, perhaps a hemisphere away. Yet scripture says this is the case.

Quantum mechanics postulates a similar phenomenon known as a “superposition.” Where a particle such as a photon, can be in two places at once, yet it doesn’t add up to two particles mathematically. This is an abstract notion that has never been observed, however, the calculations fortify the technological progress in electronics, electromagnetism and other fields, and can be measured. We don’t understand how it works but we can see the results of it working.

God Is Timeless

God is outside of time. God is timeless. He is eternal (Deuteronomy 33:27). Merriam-Webster defines eternal as “having infinite duration – everlasting; valid or existing at all times – timeless.” God is valid for all time. He is unchanging.

In Isaiah 40:28 the prophet posits, “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.” And Psalm 90:2 declares, “Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.”

God has no beginning and no end. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End (Revelation 22:13). He has always existed. Paul wrote in 1 Timothy 1:17, “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.”

God Is Omniscient And Sovereign

God’s knowledge is limitless. “Great is our Lord and mighty in power; His understanding has no limit.” (Psalm 147:5). Romans 11:33-34 contains this proclamation from Paul, “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable His judgements, and His paths beyond tracing out! Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been His counselor?”

God is sovereign. He has mercy upon whom He has mercy and He has compassion on whom He has compassion (Romans 9:15-18) and He does all that He pleases (Psalm 115:3). All things belong to Him (Deuteronomy 10:14). In Psalm 24:1, David declares, “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for He founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters.”

His dominion is eternal and endures forever. The prophet Daniel wrote, “All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as He pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back His hand or say to Him: ‘What have You done?'” (Daniel 4:35).

No one can endure seeing the Almighty God. Even Moses was not permitted to see His face (Exodus 33:19-20). The grandeur of God is not only beyond human comprehension but infinitely exceeds man’s ability to withstand His presence. His power is not merely strength as understood by physics, but the very force that sustains the existence of the universe. It is unlimited and unprecedented.

God is so holy that nothing can come close to His purity. He is light and in Him there is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5). The word holy has two meanings” “to set aside” and “to set apart” and it always carries a sense of purity. Humans cannot even come close to God’s holiness as even our acts of righteousness are like filthy rags in comparison.

The Lord is righteous in all His ways. Everything He does is right. He never makes a mistake, He never commits a sin and He never does anything wrong. He is completely and totally righteous. He is blameless.

And the Lord is good to all and has compassion on all (Psalm 145:9). God is love.(1 John 4:16). “And He passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, ‘The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.'” (Exodus 34:6).

God Is Knowable

God is knowable. He has revealed Himself to us in the pages of the Bible. He told Moses, “I Am Who I Am,” and since that day He has revealed Himself through scripture. And then one day when He entered His own creation and lived among men. How God could incarnate as Jesus of Nazareth is a mystery many are unwilling to accept. Yet the omnipresence of God was on full display before the eyes of the world when Jesus walked the roads of Judea.

Paul wrote, “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is head over every power and authority.” (Colossians 2:9-10). The doctrine of the Trinity is as difficult to comprehend as the omnipresence of God. In 1 Corinthians 1:18, the apostle says, “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

Man will never be able to completely understand God but in Christ Jesus we have a glimpse into His infinite nature. “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him.” He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:15-17).

The writer of Hebrews states in Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” He is timeless, sinless, flawless and limitless! He is the author and perfector of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12).

Jesus Christ transcended the limitations of human life by conquering death and resurrecting from the tomb. Death could not hold Him and He boldly announced in His revelation to John, “I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.” (Revelation 1:17b-18).

The limitless nature of God is difficult to understand. With mankind many things are not possible but with God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). It requires faith to accept that God can do all He does. But in Jesus we have the assurance that our faith is credited to us as righteousness (Romans 4:24), and that makes our faith and our hope limitless.
